Genesis 4:25-26 (NKJV) 25 And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed.” 26 And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the LORD.
Something happened on the earth at the time around Seth’s birth. Cain had killed Abel years before, and humanity was already spiraling downward. The sin of Adam and Eve had successfully infiltrated the very nature of man, and the spirit of the anti-Christ had begun his rule as “god of this age”. Cain was out and about, intentionally disobeying the Lord, and Adam and Eve were scratching their heads in awe of how things had gotten so bad. All they did was take a little bite of something that God had forbidden. hmmmmm let’s learn.
Then men began to call on the Lord for “God has appointed another seed”. The Lord always has seed on the earth. Without the seed of Seth, we would have been doomed again. Obviously, the Lord was not going to let His plans be thwarted by satan or the fallen angels. God planted Seth to replace the heart for God that Abel had. The offering of Cain and Abel revealed their hearts. Offerings always reveal our hearts.
Then came Enoch, which revealed the heart of God.
Genesis 5:21-24 (NKJV) 21 Enoch lived sixty-five years, and begot Methuselah. 22 After he begot Methuselah, Enoch walked with God three hundred years, and had sons and daughters. 23 So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him.
God is always looking for someone He can take for Himself. Enoch walked with God, which was the maturation of what began after Seth’s birth when men began calling upon the Lord. Apparently, sometimes God actually takes people for Himself, and other times he takes them for Himself but leaves them on this travailing earth for the benefit of mankind. Either way let us be a people who walk with God and let God decide how He takes us.
